According to the BBC, Ecuador is the largest exporter of bananas in the world.

Human Rights Watch reports on the dangers of banana plantation work, including very low rate of unionization, high child labor, and toxic chemicals.

Also interesting - a BBC documentary on the oild industry, featuring Ecuador and Angola. Perhaps we could screen it on our documentary night.
